Generative Design is a design research method that allows a designer to gain insight into the wants and needs of their clients. It is an engaging process in which the client is given the opportunity to express their preferences and desires through some form of creative process such as modelling or drawing.
I participated in a Generative Design Research activity in my Design Methods for Insight Gathering module earlier this week. The task had the class separated into groups where we were told to design our “dream” house. The task made us realise how important it is for a designer to consider the clients wants and needs as all of us wanted all our own things on the house but also had to consider each other’s desires.
